Mega Bike Giveaway and Penny Gold Rush on Tap as Coos Bay Speedway Returns to Action Saturday Night

If you have a kid that enjoys racing, or you’ve been on the fence about bringing the family out to see the races at Coos Bay Speedway, this Saturday night is a night you won’t want to miss.

A large amount of prizes will be given away to the young ones this weekend, starting with a free Hot Wheel for the first 100 kids through the gate. The prizes don’t stop there. Thanks to First Community Credit Union, $300 in pennies will be given out during an intermission game. After all the pennies are dumped on the ground, kids will have a few minutes to pick up as many as they can before the timer runs out.

On top of that over 40 bikes for kids of all ages will be given away thanks to many generous donors in the community. With all the giveaways happening for the kids this Saturday night, you almost forget there’s a race happening as well.

Preston Luckman comes into this weekend’s race atop the America’s Mattress Super Late Models points standings. It’s a close battle at the top, as Toby McIntyre, Deven Brown and defending champ Brody Montgomery all stand within 10 points of Luckman after the opening two rounds, and are hungry to take the top spot. Luckman and Joey Tanner have won the division’s two races so far.

It’s been a one man show this year in the Sportsman Late Models so far, as young up and coming racer Braden Fugate has swept the opening two events in 2019. Reedsport racer Mike Taylor has been hot on Fugate’s heels, picking up a Trophy Dash win at the last event and finishing 2nd to Fugate in both features.

Steve Dubisar has asserted himself as the early favorite to claim the Street Stock track championship. Dubisar has been incredibly quick out of the gate this season, picking up wins in each of the division’s first two races. Not far behind has been Powers native Tom Elam. The veteran racer has Dubisar’s main form of competition this season, picking up back to back runner up finishes to start the season.

The battle atop the Hornets division has been a fierce one through the first two rounds of competition, as Hannah Robison and defending division champ Tyler Tullos have put on great races for the win the past two races. Taking over 3rd in points after the last event was Gabrielle Boles. Boles put together one of the best performances of her young career with a 3rd place finish, and will be gunning for the Top 2 this weekend.

The Mini Outlaws made their debut at the last race, and once again, it was Sam Talon coming out on top. Talon was a dominant force in the division last season, posting 12 wins and 20 Top 5’s en route to a track championship. Jason Kellam and Dan Daniels completed the podium at the last event.

The Jr Stingers have been a fun class to watch this season. After Alex Butler won the opener, Griff Smith returned to his winning ways and won the last race. Young James Shingleton could be one to watch for soon. The young racer is still getting seat time to get comfortable with the car, but once Shingleton finds his groove, you may just find him in victory lane.

Make sure you don’t miss Saturday’s action! The grandstands open at 4 P.M, with racing beginning at 6:30.

General Admission prices are as follows:

Adults $10

Seniors & Kids (7-17) $8

Children 6 & Under FREE

Family Pass (2 Adults & 3 Kids) $25
